Makes me feel like a kid... I thought the animation was revolutionary because so far I have not seen any other 3D animation films bearing such a close resemblance to real life. It's like everything is so real-life. No doubt the story plot is rather straightforward (I mean how profound you expect it to be when it is targetted at mostly kids!!) The whole film revolves about the age-old topic about whether Santa Claus exists and throughout the full duration of the film, this kid who has gradually started to doubt the credibility of the Santa Claus legend went through a dream which re-ignited his belief and got him in touch with the Christmas spirit. I can't say much about the story because I really find it slightly boring. If not for Tom Hanks' vocal talents that really kept me awed in my seat, I would not even want to watch this show.

Today went to K-box with my mum and sister. (I was kind of dragged) This has got to be the weirdest K-box experience I ever got. The last time the whole family went to some other KTV (which dates back to last year) I end up singing oldies (those by Fei Yu Qing...) This time it was better. I guess it's because my mum has sort of gotten used to accomodating to us, especially since she and my sis always go K-box together. Shall not elaborate further.

Sigh it seems that more and more people have stopped blogging. Sometimes when I am so bored, I actually went to visit some seniors' blog... I guess I will still blog for now but when next year starts, I doubt I will have the time. Shall wait and see. Feel like counting down so... 4 days to Taiwan Trip!!!

How fate favours me...

Saturday, November 27, 2004

Just one month ago, I could have given in anything to enjoy a day of peace and quiet. But now when I am perpetually entitled to five whole days of slacking before the choir chalet (which I have not decided whether to go for all the two days or just on the second day when we have seniors farewell party)and of course, the long-awaited Taiwan Trip. This is how my life has been plagued by contradiction and irony all these years. I rememeber so well all those times when I yearned for the holidays to come during the exam periods, but when they really come knocking on my door, all the excitement and buzzing activity that have taken up all those precious studying hours will suddenly disappear, melt away into nothing. I hope it wouldn't be the same for this Taiwan trip as it was for the Bremen one, because it will really take some effort to get hyped up after this lost of momentum.

And reality has finally dawned on me. J2 and A levels loomed ever nearer, a bit too domineering and overshadowing. A lot of uncertainities await, not any lesser than the start of this year. The seniors were kind enough to warn me that A levels Chinese History is not the push-over that we have been introduced to. (Never thought it will be easy anyway. Come on! Its 5000 years of history...) They say that it will be suicidal to bank on the TYS questions that we have been instructed to. Well, those calling the shots have finally changed their way of setting questions the moment I decided to pick up this subject... Well done. I shall console myself with the fact that at least we will not be mistaken as those nerds who only know how to purely regurgitate what we learn anymore.

该来的总是会来的。

音乐变质还是贬值

Friday, November 26, 2004

Incredibles

Went with the choir guys to watch "The Incredibles" yesterday in the evening. I had gathered many good comments and opinions on the show before that and many had feedback after watching the show that it is a run for money. Even the movie reviews gave it 4 star ratings. And it was GOOD! When the movie posters came out somewhere in the earlier part of the year, my first thought was that it was going to be one of those act cute, "hero-to-the-rescue" type of show with nothing but a lot of stupid gimmicks that can only trick kids. But it turned out that it had more of a creative storyline and a greater depth than most movies nowadays. Those that offers nothing but a lot of eye candy.(prominent Hollywood actors and actresses)

I don't understand why so many people liked Jack-Jack, that baby super. I guess it was the cute thing again. Remember "Finding Nemo"? The girls perpetually shrilled and laughed so loudly towards the end when Jack-Jack finally showed his true colours. And I have to say that choir girls laugh in a special way. It is hard to describe really, but it is somewhere between a male falsetto and a turkey.

Then after that, we wanted to have dinner but end up walking into BK, only to come out after 5 minutes. In the end, we simply made our way to the MRT station. Haha but it sure let me know more about the choir people.

Discover

These two days have been quite action-packed for me. On friday, we went to support Jin Jing in the Mediacorp Studio because she just participated in the "Top Fun" variety show's singing competition. She was modelling after Fish Leung and as usual, her self-confidence and talent just shown through. So it was no surprise that the judges were full of praises for her performances. (They even hinted that the other contestants can just go home already since she was the first contestant) I must say Jin had never disappointed all of us everytime we went to cheer her on. So proud to have such a talented friend. Haha. I believe that someday she will make it big, be it behind-the-scenes or up front.

As for Singapore Idol, seriously I could hardly be bothered now as the final showdown draws closer. Olinda may not be cut out for an idol as of now but well, she can SING, which is very important. They say physical appearance and character does count. I agree, but I think the former can be enhanced as time passes whereas vocal talents are a born gift. Still, I never thought Singapore could really vote for idols that could match those from other countries, pardon my bluntness.

Then went to see those lep people who are going to china off today at Changi Airport T2. No it was not really a political move, neither am I trying to put on an act of charisma and comity, seriously I have had enough of social formalities that could last me for the rest of my teengage days. It was surprising that it turned out that there were so many people I know who went to the airport today. Most were either going for the Taiwan Immersion and the LEP Immersion but even amongst the people who went with the same purpose as me, I could make out many familiar faces. It was quite a warm feeling to see the others off and strangely, the "visitor gang" (couldnt come up with a better name)made up of Jas, Mengni, Cui Yi, Alice and I seemed more excited than those who are going for the trip. Such irony. Saw Molly, Jaspar and Mavice as well but they left early. It was most shocking when Tiger suddenly leapt out of nowhere. Ahuh now that's a spring attack. But I thought it was quite nice of him to come. Next while we were taking the Sky Train from T2 to T1 we saw the MOE teacher. (the one who kept advertising for 7-11, or is it her?)It was like we were joking about her and suddenly she appeared behind us. It was like sending another jolt down our spines. Looks like we must tread carefully now. But then again, I think the two teachers-in-charge seemd to be quite amicable and nice. We shall see.

And lastly, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ZHEHAN!! And please next time don't ask two guys to go take neoprints!! That's like ultra gay!! But nevermind the birthday boy gets the say. Once again, Happy Birthday Gao De. And Cui Chang ROCKS!!!!

Charged up

It had been truly fantastic being around with my friends whom I have not really spent a lot of time with these few days. Playing mahjong throughout the night, taking a night stroll along the beach, engaging in “Men’s Talk” (actually I just listened, could barely cut in. They were too taken away.), playing the X-box and swearing a great deal. We were like talking about the good old NP days when we had our Unit Chalet and had like 10 plus people squeezing in a small chalet apartment in Costa Sands, having BBQ that tasted like burnt charcoal and literally bit the dust and inhaled all the soot. Everywhere we turn in the chalet, we seem to be searching for the footprints that we had left behind for the past few years. The chalet had not changed, no doubt the facilities had been upgraded, but I can’t help thinking, “Have we changed?”

I was pleased that there was the chalet to exorcise my fears. We were just as cocky, just as playful, just so… us. Talking about chio bus, observing and mentally taking down some details and pointers to add spice to our conversations. If you ask me, we have not changed one bit. We even came up with scenarios as to what if we got into same platoon the year after, what if we each became so busy we can't meet up? What if...

And I will remember what WS said,"We might not have common interests. But somehow, we came together and we bonded well. (chemistry?) We have people studying biology, computing, maths, english and humanities, and chinese and literature. But somehow we can click." Indeed, it is a wonder fate brought the five of us together. We will continue to be friends until we grow old, until we die. As long as we forget those excuses we can make, we can make this come true. At least, that's what I have been assured of after these years.

This is what I call holidays

Sunday, November 14, 2004

Yupz. Really went crazy today. Had been longing for such a day for the whole year. Ever since my friends and I went seperate ways when we enter JC, it is really hard to get the OPX gang (made up of NP guys) together. But we did it! We met up at Harbourfront today, intending to go to Sentosa to just enjoy each other's company and in the end, decided not to after seeing the long queue waiting for the bus services to Sentosa. So some of us who came on time (note it's on time not early) waited at the food centre just beside the MRT station for the others (ppl like Kang Hao haha) and then had a great laugh for the FIRST time (meaning there's more to come) when Kang Hao called and asked us where we were after we had specifically told him to find us in the food centre beforehand. It turned out that being Kang Hao, he had landed himself in Harbourfront Centre which is just opposite the food centre. We have like expected this anyway, so we were already anticipating his call to ask for directions. Haha not to sound mean but then for someone who can give people a bad impression in Bridge games, you really have to cut him some slack.

So anyway, after having our lunch we went to Cold Storage in Harbourfront Centre and each got ourselves a whole packet of 1 litre Soya Bean Milk and we were like brandishing that carton everywhere we go, as though they were war trophies. Then we enjoyed doing clever things like stopping in the middle of nowhere and squatting down together, forming circles or walking on grass to get across a drain and then later found out that there is a well-paved road just beside that patch of thick, long grass. Thats like how smart. Then we went up this road that we thought will lead up to Mount Faber and in the end it is a dead-end with a sort of apartment located there. The place is like infested with mosquitoes and we were like making a blood donation. Then Kang Hao suggested going Chinatown to buy some souvenirs as required by the China trip. We enjoyed laughing our heads off as we went from place to place, fully neglecting the presence of other people. Then we acted like tourists and went up Smith Road to search for the souvenirs and found out that there is no such thing as Perfect Competition. Guess the shop-owners don't really know about price elasticity because two shops can bge selling the same item (keychains) for like 6 for $10 and 6 for $2.40. Ah!!! How smart. Then we walked past a beggar and found out that he stretched out his hands when me and two other of my friends walked past but he simply looked away when Kang Hao passed by him. Haha. Ok there is definitely something wrong about Kang Hao.

Then we enjoyed cracking lame jokes and amplifying the level of amusement they bring by laughing so loudly that I bet the people walking along Chinatown must have thought we were a bunch of lunatics who have cracked under exam stress. Especially when Kang Hao (Ah! It is hard not to laugh AT him when he is around.) said that he found blood stains on his bed sheets when he woke up. (He claimed he had squashed the poor mosquito which had obviously picked the wrong target and didn't live to regret its choice.) Blood stains on bedsheets. Kang Hao you ought to be careful of what you say because that's got to be a sign which is definitely NOT normal for a guy. Then Kang Hao spilled some soya bean milk onto his hands and when we asked where he got that from, he said,"Oh! I squeezed EK's shoulder." Haha. Next we walked from Chinatown to Clarke Quay where we bid good bye to Kang and Jun Yan. The latter was going to Orchard to meet his "friend" while Kang Hao had to go to send off his relative at the airport.

So we walked and talked cock, "praised" the government (haha we do this alot) for giving accurate information in Social Studies textbooks as to how clean the Singapore River is. I am sure those chairs that have been left to rot at the side of the river are meant to add on to the fantastic scenery and to beautify the coastline. Haha. Finally we let our legs rest after 4 to 5 hours of walking in the KFC outlet at Funan. We took it in turns to snatch each others handphones and try to discover some things that might be interesting news. Then disturbed Jun Yan by calling him to tell him that we have seen him walking on the streets of Orchard with his friends. Haha. So that's it. A whole day of lameness and ludicrousness. The "Get Real" TV programme on Channel News Asia will have this as next week's topics: 6 Deranged on the move in Singapore."

Anyway, will be away for the following three days because of the Chalet. Yeah!!

Leader Test Results

Seriously I remembered I first got to know Gandhi in the Madam Tussad's Exhibition years ago. I think he sort of inspired me, especially after I found out the things he had done for India. A quote to share:
The test of friendship is assistance in adversity, and that too, unconditional assistance. Co-operation which needs consideration is a commercial contract and not friendship. Conditional co-operation is like adulterated cement which does not bind.

Finally...

Thursday, November 11, 2004

Had some fun today. Went K-Box with Vin, ZQ, XF, Jas, Lee Koon and QH. Siew Hui was the absent-minded one today. Trust her to say "I have just woke up and saw Jay Chow on the television" when we called her at 11. Haha! Could just imagine her expression. Anyway, had hell of a time singing almost endlessly, even roping in some Children Songs! Courtesy to.... Ok it is pretty obvious who was behind that. Then there was an awkward period of time which lasted for about 5 minutes as we hear QH sing some songs that none of us had heard before. Age gap? Then Jas and Vin, as promised, brought us back to the 80s with their Hokkien songs, though I thought their rendition of those songs were actually quite good. Ya but I sincerely hope they don't get addicted to this and start a duet concert in Taiwan.

Hmm it is time to lay out my plans for next year. Although I think the main outline has already been finalised for me. Just have to start fulfilling my academical committments.

Monotony

It looks like the holidays are not proving to be as enjoyable as I had thought it would be. In fact, it has become something like a routine to get up at round 10 p.m, check whether there are choir practice or outings, then finish my lunch and start wasting away my time, either by slouching in my seat finding a good position to read a book, or go online and start stoning, or resolve to taking afternoon naps which I had never done before. (since I always thought sleeping is a horrible waste of time)

Anyway so it happens that today marks the starting of a list of holiday choir practices. Found myself moving around like a zombie. For some reason, the whole choir sounded quite dead, just like me. But a good thing that happened today was that I actually sounded better than I had been the last few days. That's a change. And the funny thing is I am supposed to be having a sore throat. This is not the first time that I appear to have a nicer-than-the-usually-nice voice when I am supposedly sick. Haha. Must investigate on this bizzare symptomn that I have developed. Anyway I am really looking forward to the chalet next week and once again, the Taiwan Trip that seems so near yet so far.

OP

Monday, November 08, 2004

PW has finally finally drawn to an end. I know some of you may find this as old news but hey, spare a thought for those poor people who have to bear another week of pw. I thought the OP was quite smooth. In fact I hate to admit it but I actually enjoyed it. Oops how evil I am. Anyway I was like thinking that well since I had to go through it anyway, might as well play it through. And well, for greater details, please ask the A12 people. I think lala laughed the loudest, for a minor (major?) flaw I committed in my speech. It turns out that when I cited Christina Aguilera as an example (because I am doing Digital Music) in response to the examiners' killer question, (they took an eternity to ask each of us one question) our dear lala burst out into fits of laughter and it was only after the whole thing has ended that I found out that I had subconsciously made a hand gesture in her direction when I said "Christina Aguilera". Aha! So I was like giving that trademark blank look, but well at least I helped made her day. Haha trying to be a good samaritan out of a purely accidental action. Ok shall not go into too much depth in case lala comes after my blood.

Anyway, went out to eat at Sweet Secrets with Vin, ZQ and Kang. Appears to be some A12 clique meeting again. Haiz. But yeah!!! We are finally going to Kbox on thursday! Hurray! Shall get influenced by Jasmine and Vin and start singing Hokkien Songs. Lol. Ok I am in a rather funky and hyperactive mood today. (Tranquilizers please?) Met some of the seniors when we were rehersing for OP in the LEP room and asked them how the LEP papers were. Got conflicting answers. Some said it was above average standard while Justin and Terence was like assuring me that they were damn easy. (And reminding me as to how hard next year's paper would be at the same time.) Also saw Yi Meng's display of art on the whiteboard. Seriously he made no attempt to hide the hidden meanings within his fantastic poem. Such candidness and candour, not to mention the "sincerity" and "confidence" of carrying such an act of open display of affections, is really startling. Try to thread the image of Yi Meng and his doings now half a year ago, I would have fainted. But then his frankness is really a model for guys. At least that's what someone told me before.

Emotional turbulence

Sunday, November 07, 2004

Sometimes I wonder whether I am overly sentimental and over-sensitive. I tend to feel greater emotional changes, nostalgia and ya those kind of things. I don't want to appear soft but I am considerably affected by memories and changes in my life that stir up this emotional whirlpool. Not that I am being besieged by these thoughts now but I cant help but think about the reasons I am so easily influenced. Change. Those who knew me from CHS have told me about how I have changed, I was always so aloof and nonchalant, passing their comments off with a slight smile. It was funny to note that that I know of a person who recoiled at that smile as though he had seen someone else but me. I have to admit I have changed. But what do they expect me to be like? Someone who keeps tagging behind them all the time, to the extent they feel irritated and annoyed? Someone who always act the 小弟 and stomachs all the light-hearted jigs and banter they throw flippantly at me, until they feel like stopping? I am not saying I had bad memories during those four years. Doubtless to say I cant be smiling my way through all the time but my experiences had been quite heartening, which I must thank my lucky stars for. I am not denying the fact that I am forced to be a 小弟. Sometimes I prefer to be like that. At least 小弟 will enjoy the company of great friends who just have minor flaws in their character, such as the burning desire to be leader of the pack. In any case, I still feel the warmth that friendship brings. After all, not everyone can be 小弟 anyway.

So they say I am vastly different now. Some told me that they preferred the old me Ok so like what am I supposed to do? Turn back time? Look upon them as the so-called 老大 again when they themselves know that they are not fit to do so? Or am I supposed to be slightly less considerate and caring and instead get in their way and occasionally getting on their nerves? Not that I am a mischievous devil who goes about making tough sport out of their lives. Far from that. The thing I only do at most is well, just fight over the use of the class computer, engage in mini debates over trivial issues and getting the better of them, as always. No. I know that that was not what they meant. They wanted me to be just.... the KH they know. But there's something they don't know. What is KH like from the start? I am pondering over that mystery.

Then those who know me from these year have totally different views. Those who happen to chance upon this blog or are loyal readers would have your own views regarding the envoy of the stars. Whatever they are, I never was really an angel so I don't really mind. Maybe a fallen angel will be more appropriate.
My wings have been broken, the clouds have spoken.
And so I have fallen, as the heavens parted in swift motion.
The leaves carry my ruptured bones,
but my heart has fled with my spirit to a faraway zone.

Waiting

Friday, November 05, 2004

All the waiting seems to be finally coming to an end. Firstly, promos are over. Secondly, I am finally freed from the braces but I must say I still feel slightly unaccustomed to the fact that I am rid of the strips of metal clamped onto my teeth. Thirdly, the date we would be leaving for Taiwan is drawing nearer and nearer. So near I can feel its heartbeat. Just like a few months ago when I am like counting down to the Bremen Trip. But then that was somewhat affected by the cold hard truth that we were going there for Competition and we still must practise hard. I guess that's the sacrifice that we had to made for the gold medal that is now lying in my cupboard. Really looking forward to the trip now. It suddenly dawned on me that every minute that we are slacking now will be paid in full next year when we slog our guts out. So since there is nothing I can do to stop time and no way that I can prevent the inevitable from occuring, I shall maximise the enjoyment I can reap from these two months.

Looking forward to seeing how next year's J1s are like: what juniors A12 will have (and that I mean well how many from THAT school haha kidding), how the basses we get will look like, how many guys will there be in LEP (haha we do hope we can get a more proportionate ratio though I think chances are slimmer than my waistline, ok I heard "ERPZ" in the background). Ya so many interesting things awaiting us when school reopens. Huang Cheng. LEP orientation. Knowing the juniors. Choir practices and SYF! (whoo hoo) Yet so many things to dread. Block tests. Frequent tests. Datelines. The thought that one year later I would be running up and down hills holding an M16. Then of course, the ultimate barrier: A levels and following that the prospect of having to leave this brilliant class, this fantastic group of friends, this wonderful school that has brought me so many memories. The list goes on. I happen to read a senior's (Xiya) blog a few days ago and she was like recording down what she did these two years and thanking all the people in her class. Hmm, well though it seems a bit far from now, I still think this will be the toughest parting I have ever encountered. Looking back, P6 was sweet but then we were all young and innocent and that candid nature. So the feelings were all well, either hidden or cast away easily. Especially for boys. I mean guys have a slower rate for mental development. Then came Sec 4. I remember 4G huddled together and the whole cohort standing on chairs with our arms locked around each other's shoulders, swaying our bodies to Xiao Ye's "Huang Hun". Ya and the days we will sit outside the classrooms in the tower block trying to squeeze some last minute facts into our saturated brains before tests. And the times we walk to the canteen or the mindless act of going to play lan during the O level period. The whole idea of casting examinations in total frivolity, still fresh in my mind. But even then there was only a bitter-sweet remembrance which served as a tribute to the four years we spent in that huge school.

How will it be like next year? I execrate myself for secretly longing for Prom or Grad Day to arrive. Deep down of course I hope it will never come. Really? Well at least I am trying to brainwash and cajole myself to think that way. But then before I am taken to be a totally heartless person devoid of any feelings, I must say I do hope the parting won't come. But shouldnt we all admit that this is but only a fragment of our imagination. Once all the hugs and kisses are given, wont the signboard pointing to different paths loom ever nearer? So I choose to fully immerse myself in this warmth now. Cheers.

Heard they are taking LEP paper tomorrow but I think their timetable is quite well-planned as the exam dates are staggered over a period of time. After their LEP papers they will have a few days before they begin their next paper. Haiz, can't help thinking about how we are going to follow their footsteps next year.

Went to the dentist and finally had my braces removed. Must have been the longest visit I had ever made. A whole 3 hours, including about 1 hour of waiting. Luckily I had enough time to waste. Feeling rather down. I don't know why. Guess I must have caught the blues.

Slack

Tuesday, November 02, 2004

I feel so slack today, or rather I have felt slack since the last day of promos. Anyway, did a few stupid things today, please congratulate me. Firstly, I returned to school planning to stay there for 10 minutes because my primary motive was to drop a copy of my O level results slip (which brings back all the nightmares) into Mr Choe's pigeon hole. What a meaningful trip eh? Next thing, was that while Yi Meng and I was crossing the bridge intending to take the bus straight home, who must come strolling across the bridge but Kang Hao. So ya we decided to waste away our time and followed Kang Hao all the way back to the school, meeting Zhi Qi and Jiu Rong along the way. Then Kang Hao suggested we go running, but in the end it was apparent that although we went through the normal route, (up the SIM and along the stretch of road from CHS to HC) only Yi Meng and I were running. I shall skip mentioning what happened to Kang Hao but well it is obvious enough.

Later, went out with Gav to watch "Before Sunset", (After Moonrise would be a great substitute... ) and for 1 hour and 20 mintues or so I watched two characters walking along stretches of road, past parks, in a cafe, all the while talking as they walked, with occasional four -letter words and third finger movements weaved into their conversation. But I think the actor and actress acted really naturally which was what the whole show was about. Just a normal, natural conversation between two people who have met each other on a train 9 years ago, had a one-night's stand and now being reunited for about 20 minutes before the guy, who happens to be at that place (Paris) to give a talk on his new book, needs to leave for the airport to fly back to New York. So the whole show revolves around small talks that each of us would have engaged in daily. But I think the show is overall a literary piece because as slowly the plot uncovers the true feelings bore deep down in the hearts of the two protagonists. And as the show continues they found out that the other had not been doing as well as they presumed. (Sounds suspiciously familiar? Yeah I thought it bears a resemblance to our most well-liked short story "Dong Ye".)

Anyway, enough of the film. I thought it was quite sad that only 2 out of the usual 5-man group came together. Well shall attribute that to PW, which is really the case anyway. Later, met up with Jiu Rong, Xf and Jas before going to meet the rest of A12 in Clarke Quay MRT. Yupz it was sort of like a mini class gathering and we went to Mu Chuan to support Jin Jing because she participated in this Singing competition. Thought the place was really quie nice, but the food was really expensive. The atmosphere was really great and the place is like a sanctury for chinese pop. So there goes my first official day of holidays.
