Waiting
Friday, November 05, 2004
All the waiting seems to be finally coming to an end. Firstly, promos are over. Secondly, I am finally freed from the braces but I must say I still feel slightly unaccustomed to the fact that I am rid of the strips of metal clamped onto my teeth. Thirdly, the date we would be leaving for Taiwan is drawing nearer and nearer. So near I can feel its heartbeat. Just like a few months ago when I am like counting down to the Bremen Trip. But then that was somewhat affected by the cold hard truth that we were going there for Competition and we still must practise hard. I guess that's the sacrifice that we had to made for the gold medal that is now lying in my cupboard. Really looking forward to the trip now. It suddenly dawned on me that every minute that we are slacking now will be paid in full next year when we slog our guts out. So since there is nothing I can do to stop time and no way that I can prevent the inevitable from occuring, I shall maximise the enjoyment I can reap from these two months.
Looking forward to seeing how next year's J1s are like: what juniors A12 will have (and that I mean well how many from THAT school haha kidding), how the basses we get will look like, how many guys will there be in LEP (haha we do hope we can get a more proportionate ratio though I think chances are slimmer than my waistline, ok I heard "ERPZ" in the background). Ya so many interesting things awaiting us when school reopens. Huang Cheng. LEP orientation. Knowing the juniors. Choir practices and SYF! (whoo hoo) Yet so many things to dread. Block tests. Frequent tests. Datelines. The thought that one year later I would be running up and down hills holding an M16. Then of course, the ultimate barrier: A levels and following that the prospect of having to leave this brilliant class, this fantastic group of friends, this wonderful school that has brought me so many memories. The list goes on. I happen to read a senior's (Xiya) blog a few days ago and she was like recording down what she did these two years and thanking all the people in her class. Hmm, well though it seems a bit far from now, I still think this will be the toughest parting I have ever encountered. Looking back, P6 was sweet but then we were all young and innocent and that candid nature. So the feelings were all well, either hidden or cast away easily. Especially for boys. I mean guys have a slower rate for mental development. Then came Sec 4. I remember 4G huddled together and the whole cohort standing on chairs with our arms locked around each other's shoulders, swaying our bodies to Xiao Ye's "Huang Hun". Ya and the days we will sit outside the classrooms in the tower block trying to squeeze some last minute facts into our saturated brains before tests. And the times we walk to the canteen or the mindless act of going to play lan during the O level period. The whole idea of casting examinations in total frivolity, still fresh in my mind. But even then there was only a bitter-sweet remembrance which served as a tribute to the four years we spent in that huge school.
How will it be like next year? I execrate myself for secretly longing for Prom or Grad Day to arrive. Deep down of course I hope it will never come. Really? Well at least I am trying to brainwash and cajole myself to think that way. But then before I am taken to be a totally heartless person devoid of any feelings, I must say I do hope the parting won't come. But shouldnt we all admit that this is but only a fragment of our imagination. Once all the hugs and kisses are given, wont the signboard pointing to different paths loom ever nearer? So I choose to fully immerse myself in this warmth now. Cheers.
