The pile of ashes

Saturday, April 14, 2007

Yesterday I saw a rather nostalgic scene at the guard house: the new enlistees from the other unit sharing the same premises as mine were singing aloud songs that I have not heard since almost one year ago, lining up in front of the main gate waiting to be released from the clutches of their superiors. The sight of them clutching their field packs, their resounding chorus of "yes" or "no" to every question given to them, the anxious and eager looks as though the gates of heaven were beckoning towards them and the gate IC sure seemed like St Peters as they filed out the main gate in the orderly fashion only recruits will display.

My friend was casually commenting how fast time passed as he too relived fragments of those one-year old memories. Much as I would have liked to express my nonchalance over such a remark, but such occasional backward glaces do give you that feeling. Just this time one year ago we were like really burning ourselves out, struggling to get by day after day. But I have not forgotten the things I took away.

"However long something might seem to one, time will bring it nearer. However far it seems, as long as one continue walking towards it, one will reach it. Over may take a very long time, but nothing can escape being a passe."

Thus the phoenix will rise from the ashes this november, and hopefully get to fly to other parts of the world just to reestablish my touch with civilisation. My workplace is driving me nuts. Everyone seems so desperate that a picture of Felicia Chin in green uniform can cause so much discussion... I don't understand the fuss. But like my friend put it, "When you are stuck in an environment five days a week, there's nothing much worth noticing already..." Talk about state of deprivation. I find it to be taking a toll on my intellect more than other things. But that said, let me introduce a new girl I met.

Of course this entry is supposed to be casual. To all cliff-hangers (which ever cliff you are hanging to now, academics, life, relationship, bad hair day... ) keep holding on even if it looks like you are scaling Mt Everest now and the worst will be over soon....

Provided a response team is at the beck of your call and you don't cut yourself loose.
