The "catching up" session today just made me realise, if not already, that it has been 2 years since I left school, and 3 years since the carefree j1 times. Not to mention the fact that the most important date etched in my mind right now is drawing ever nearer, abit between out of reach and in clear sight. College, high school and uniforms (except green ones) seem so far away...

Met up with Karl and Aaron and had the same old talks about old and current times. Obviously we touched on the choir, and here I would really like to proudly announce that HC choir received Gold with honours again, being one of the three schools to do so in this year's SYF. Come to think of it, it is pretty amazing. I guess Ms Lim, our conductor deserves most of the credit. But that aside, we just realised how long it has been since we have sang together. That itself is an ironic thought, since we have complained so much about having endless practices in the past. Life is just so complicated. Correction, I should say personal and inter-personal feelings complicate matters to life.

Aaron was just casually unmasking the truths of medicine school, in the exact same air of cynicism like another friend of mine. Some things can't be helped. I must agree with him that the truth hurts. At least he's not living in denial or ignorance of this fact. He doesn't believe people take up medicine to help others or save lives alone. At least such a breed that might happen to exist is going into extinction in the utilitarian and selfish world today. Correction, maybe the world never turned selfish and utilitarian only now, but human relationships definitely take a downturn for the worst. He says it just isn't possible to tell yourself that you are doing all this work and putting up with all these sacrifices just to help people when one is really working so hard for himself, to improve his own grades, to score better than the rest in tests. How can you be heading the direction of selflessness after going through a self-centred process all along? One doctor once told them that it becomes a motivation when you tell yourself that you are going to save lives while carrying out your duties. A drive to move on. A reason to edge forward. It becomes self-delusional. A daily brainwashing procedure. But then again, a change of perspective will shape all this into optimism and positiveness. So like at the end of the day, it's all in the mind?

I don't know, but it's difficult not to become skeptical after hearing other's experiences. Like how can you still believe naively in this air of optimism when you see hypocrisy and backstabbing happening right under your nose everyday. On a lighter note, we can even talk about whether adopting a night life is a form of escapism or not, since most routine in reality occurs in daytime.... I guess we are just bored.

恋爱时代 is nearing to an end and it's kind of bittersweet. Can't wait to see more of 孙艺珍 and 甘宇成. Their acting is really commendable. 幸福双人床 belongs to the same genre, romantic yet humourous, but somehow it lacks the heartwrenching bits. If you are thinking why I am suddenly so interested in such a genre, I am just trying to strike a balance with the anime I have been watching. Anime with sci-fi, fantasy, violence, supernatural themes.

Lastly, since I haven't done such a thing for quite some time, I shall do a short review of Spiderman 3. Spoilers alert! Personally, I feel Spiderman 2 is still the best one in the franchise. This latest installment, while satisfying audience requests at times, somehow lack the character development of the villains involved that the previous 2 films had. Probably because there are like 4 antagonists this time, including the hero himself, while battling his inner demons. It's weird that there appeared to be so many action scenes but somehow, they don't pack a punch. I just see alot of flying through mid air scenes, debris and sand falling everywhere and the hero or his adversaries taking turns to take a nose dive onto the ground. But I just find it most ridiculous that Harry aka Goblin Jr's retarded butler actually told him the truth about his father's death after, yes only after he became consumed by revenge and hate, tried to kill his best friend 3 times and finally got his own face scarred. He still had the cheek to say that he had "seen many things". Sandman was worst. The audience couldn't pity his plight, nor can we pass him off as totally evil. He's just there for the sake of adding another bad guy as added challenge to the hero. Then for all the things he did and having almost pounding Spiderman to death, he's forgiven and free to roam... The film was entertaining, visually stunning, the protagonist's struggles were highlighted, but there were too many loose ends.

That aside, really looking forward to June now.
