Bluish Turkey (Second episode)

Friday, December 21, 2007

As promised, I shall deliver the second installment to our wondrous and crazy adventure to Turkey. Yes our "Turkey adventure" term is coined by none other than Uncle Leon. Zhehan did mention that we are a dream team. (from the earliest time when the four of us came together to the planning to the actual trip and now, when everything is a memory, this whole process does feel like a very good dream)

So we woke up to this view from our balconies.. Yeah I am like striving to be on the promotion board for Turkey tourism...

Another nice view from the hotel

Leon's choice of weird exotic food from the buffet tables.. Can you even make out what those separate dishes are? As to how much of that was edible, you will have to ask him.. but we definitely remember the accursed "fermented durian", which was some vegetables dipped in some yucky cream with an ugly colour... The taste was... unforgettable. And it was then I realised Turkish probably like fermented stuff..

Hierapolis- an ancient Roman city. (Don't just go rolling your eyes and think this is just another ancient ruins site.. I mean there MUST be something special about these sites that attract people right?)

And this is definitely different from the grand theatre we see in Ephesus. This is... well a Coliseum.

Look at Zhehan's winter dressing...

The unique Cotton Castle- a natural Limestone structure

Cascading terraces and pools.. Look at the colour of the water!

Zhehan is soo happy!

Cui changs in Turkey...

Leon doing his trademark pose, before some random Western tourists came over and told him to come out because no shoes are allowed on this platform...

How can we not have a group photo at this beautiful sight?

Ok I could'nt resist.. Anyone who played CS will definitely feel the resemblance between this place and the map Aztec..

Oops... Ok I haven't done this for like.. er very long.. Signs of becoming lame in Turkey.. must be the weather

Somehow I find this oddly familiar- as if I have seen it from Marianne Chong's textbook.. And is this block disintegration? I have quite forgotten..

Ruins...

And more ruins. Notice the sky has darkened. This picture and the one before were taken within a short span of 5 minutes.

小白 in a 白色bathrobe.. (anyway there's an aunty who calls him xiaobai too) We were going to a thermal pool.. But we never bring any swim wear so er you can guess what we were wearing inside the bath robe.

I like the colour of my robe, although you might not be convinced from my rather cold expression. Lol.. Well we all got to show different expressions right?

Truly the 硬邦邦先生 we know.

At the lobby of the Thermal Hotel at Pamukkale.. The cushion seats are so comfortable we had to reluctantly force ourselves onto our feet when it was time to go..
Us with Kadri. Yimeng corrected me to say he smokes at least 20 cigarettes a day... I see..

Another group photo.. I simply love the place.. The weather's freezing and we were freezing and breathing smoke to each other... Haha.
Outside the Mausoleum of Mevlana, and yes the three of them were standing in the middle of the two roads..

Caravanserai, a free "hotel" for traders and travellers of the past

Underground City at Kaymakli.. It does give the idea of 古墓 from 神雕侠侣.

Height advantage becomes a disadvantage here.

This is a church in the underground city. Hmm.. ya well at least the sign board says so.

We all did the duck walk..

Group photo number lost count...

Yes we blocked the passageway... Hurray!

Preparing the dye by boiling different spices..

Gallery Antonio.. as the sign board shows..

Demonstration time.. This carpet will take 6 months to complete!

Beautiful carpets.. beautiful prices too. The cheapest cost 950.. depends on size and number of knots, and of course the material..

Our saviour.. *drums roll.. Mr Teo Zhehan.. who bought a 200 dollar carpet and managed to get the entire tour out of the shop AT LAST... The funny thing is the shop promoters were busy attending to the other two families whom they feel will probably have a stronger purchasing power but in the end they didn't buy anything. But look at our zhehan and his famous "nua" pose...

CATS Special

For some reason, Turkey is strewn with cats all over the place. Evidence below..

This is called big foot and small foot.

Doesn't this cat remind you of a certain Nazi Dictator?

Some of the cats here are really WELL FED...

A smart cat seeking shelter from the rain...

Sweet looking cat. I find it resembles Puss in Boots from Shrek..

Shall end it here. More coming up, along with an Yimeng special, and it comes with bonus mtv too, directed by none other than Leon.

Also will be shown is Goreme Open air Museum, comprising of rock cut churches that still consist of well preseved, beautiful frescoes depicting the Bible. Look out for the "fairy chimneys" landscape of Cappadocia too.

A preview...
