Live from Tokyo

Wednesday, July 23, 2008

I interrupt all who happen to continue dropping by this blog for the past week despite knowing the author is on hiatus with a news flash live from Tokyo:

00.15 Japan time. One hour ahead of Singapore. I was enjoying a chat on msn using free internet access (for once, after so many nights of internet services hostels offer at 100yen/20 minutes) when I noticed my handphone placed on the table was vibrating. I paid no heed to this even though the handphone screen did not flash to signal any incoming call or message, or the tingling sensation I felt in my fingertips as I was typing on the keyboard.

It was not until I heard noise in the lobby and a few people (including my friends who were supposedly sleeping) started gathering that I realise something happened. And then someone uttered the word 'earthquake', which was when everything started dawning upon me. A split second later, everyone was discussing where the earthquake was centred and checking the japan meteorological agency website for information. And here it is:

For those who care about my humble wellbeing, please be assured I am safe. I will be mindful of the emergency exits and I have my bag with my passport at the ready. I also take pride in the fact that I am a light sleeper which means I will continue to enjoy a good night of rest. (The tremours are long gone in any case)

心配しないでください。大丈夫です。
